Composites (White Fillings)
Dr. Bruce Nelson is a cosmetic dentist experienced in the placement of lifelike crowns and bridges. A dental crown is a cap that duplicates the shape and look of natural tooth. This is often used when a tooth has become damaged and needs extra support. A dental crown is most often used for the following reasons:
• To prevent a tooth that has been weakened by decay from breaking
• To hold together parts of a tooth that has a large crack
• To restore the functionality to a broken tooth
• To support a tooth that has been undergone severe decay
• To hold a dental bridge in place
• To hide discolored or disfigured teeth
Dental implants are now the generally preferred tooth replacement treatment over partial dentures and fixed bridges. Traditional treatments either rest on your gums, as with removable dentures, or rely upon adjacent teeth to serve as anchors for fixed bridges. Dental implants are placed into the jaw bone, offering a highly successful, long-term replacement option.
Dentures & Partials
Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. While dentures take some getting used to, and will never feel exactly the same as one’s natural teeth, today’s dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.
There are two main types of dentures: full and partial. Your dentist will help you choose the type of denture that’s best for you based on whether some or all of your teeth are going to be replaced and the cost involved.
Veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain which are strongly bonded to the front surface of the teeth. Each veneer is custom made and colored for a natural appearance. Once they are bonded to the teeth, they can alter the size, shape, or color of the teeth. Porcelain veneers are usually recommended to fix the following problems:
• Gaps between teeth
• Chipped teeth
• Disfigured teeth
White Fillings (Composites)
Composite fillings are a cosmetically pleasing solution for tooth repair that rely on a tooth colored plastic and glass mixture to fill in chips or cracks in teeth. They can also be used to change the shape or size of a tooth that has been worn or disfigured. Dr. Nelson will often recommend composite fillings for the following cases:
